What goes into an electronic press kit (EPK)?

An EPK is the one link you send to press, promoters, bookers and playlist curators. They decide quickly, often in under a minute, so it should answer their questions without a reply: who you are, what you sound like, what's new, how it looks and how to reach you.

The essentials are a short and a long bio, the current release with a private or public listening link, three to five press photos in high resolution, the artwork, a few live or video links, any press quotes, and contact details. Everything should be downloadable without asking.

Tips that work

  • Put the newest release and the best listening link at the top
  • Name every photo file with the artist name and photographer credit
  • Keep one page; a long scroll of everything you've ever done hides the good parts

Common mistakes

  • Photos that are too small to print or crop
  • A bio that doesn't mention the current release
  • No direct email, only a contact form

Write your EPK bio

The bio is the part of an EPK most artists leave until last. Describe your project and get a version you can edit; switch to long for the full EPK bio.

Frequently asked questions

What is an EPK?

An electronic press kit: one page or document with your bio, photos, music, videos, achievements and contacts, made for bookers, journalists, labels and festivals.

What's the minimum an EPK needs?

A short and a long bio, a few press photos, your two or three best tracks, a live or music video and contact details. Everything else strengthens it but isn't required to start.
