Spotify pitch checker

Paste the pitch you're about to send in Spotify for Artists. The checker counts characters against the 500 limit and looks for what editors need: a genre, a reference, the story and your plans. Free, no sign-in, nothing is stored.

What the checker looks for

  • Length. Spotify cuts you off at 500 characters. Under 150 usually means useful context is missing.
  • Genre and references. A plain genre and a 'for fans of' line help editors place the song.
  • Story. One concrete detail about how the song was made or what it's about.
  • Plans. A video, tour, radio or press push around the release.
  • Mistakes. Hype words, links, emojis and ALL CAPS.

How to write a Spotify pitch editors actually read

The pitch is the short description you send with an unreleased song from Spotify for Artists. The form caps it at 500 characters; Spotify's help pages don't print the number, but the box stops you there. Alongside it you pick genres, moods and instruments, so the text doesn't need to repeat them. Use the space for what the dropdowns can't say: the story, who it's for and what you're doing to promote it.

Timing matters as much as wording. Spotify asks you to deliver the song at least 7 days before release, and only one song can be pitched at a time; the next pitch opens once that song is out. Pitch at least 7 days ahead and the song also goes to your followers' Release Radar, even if no editor picks it.

Pitching never guarantees a playlist. Treat it as one well-written paragraph that gives an editor a reason to press play, not a sales letter.

Tips that work

  • Open with the one concrete thing that makes this song different: where it was made, what happened, a sound nobody else uses
  • Name two or three "for fans of" artists in your actual lane, not the biggest names in the genre
  • End with real release plans: a video, a tour date, press, a TikTok series

Common mistakes

  • Adjective lists ("emotional, powerful, unique") that any song could claim
  • Hashtags, links and emojis: the editor reads plain text
  • Pitching after release day, when it's too late for both editors and Release Radar
  • Claiming streams or results you can't back up

Frequently asked questions

How many characters can a Spotify pitch have?

The pitch description in Spotify for Artists is limited to 500 characters.

Does this checker send my pitch anywhere?

No. The checks run in your browser and nothing you paste is stored or sent to Textlino.

Will a perfect score get me on a playlist?

No tool can promise that. The checker makes sure editors get the information they need; the song and timing do the rest.
