How to pitch your song to Spotify editors
Spotify for Artists lets you pitch one unreleased song per release to Spotify's editorial team. The pitch won't guarantee a playlist, but a clear one gives editors what they need to consider you, and pitching early also gets the song onto your followers' Release Radar.

Timing
Pitch at least seven days before release so the song can appear on your followers' Release Radar. Editors get far more pitches than they can listen to, so three to four weeks ahead gives your song a better chance of being heard.
Your distributor needs to have delivered the release to Spotify before it shows up as pitchable, so upload early. You can pitch one song at a time and edit the pitch up to release day, though editors may not see late changes.
Fill in the metadata carefully
Before the text box, Spotify asks for genres, moods, instruments, song style and culture tags. These are used to route your song to the right editors, so choose the ones that describe the track itself, not the ones that sound most popular.
Write the 500-character description
The text field allows up to 500 characters. Use them for things editors can't hear in the first 30 seconds:
- •What the song is about or the story behind it
- •A 'for fans of' reference to place it
- •How it was made, if it's interesting
- •Your marketing plans: video, tour, press, radio, ads
- •Who is involved: producer, features, label
Mistakes that waste the pitch
- •Hype words ('banger', 'the next big hit') instead of facts
- •Links, which editors can't click in the pitch
- •Asking for a specific playlist by name
- •Describing the song only with moods the tags already cover
If your track is made with AI
Pitch it like any other song: the genre, the mood, the story and your plans. If the song was made with an AI tool, say it in one plain line and put the weight on your part, such as the lyrics, the arrangement or the edit.
Make sure the AI credits are filled in with your distributor before you pitch. Spotify shows them in the song credits and says disclosing AI doesn't lead to down-ranking. Never pitch a track that imitates a real artist's voice: Spotify only allows vocal impersonation the artist has authorised.
