"lofi beats to study/relax to 📚☕ like and subscribe for more #lofi #chill #study #beats"
"'Night Ferry' is a 3-minute lo-fi beat from Porto producer Rui Lima, built from a Rhodes loop and rain recorded on the Douro ferry. Listen everywhere: [link] Artwork by [artist] · Full 'Tram 28' tape: [link] #lofi #lofihiphop #porto"
What makes a good YouTube music video description?
The description is where viewers find the streaming link, the credits and the story behind the video, and it's one of the texts YouTube reads to understand what the video is. The first lines show above the 'more' button, so they need to say who, what and where to listen. Timestamps turn into chapters when they follow YouTube's format.
- • Opening lines: artist, song and one sentence about the video
- • Streaming link right after the opening
- • Chapters: at least three timestamps, starting at 0:00
- • Credits: writers, producer, mix, director
- • Social links and three or four relevant hashtags
Writing for lo-fi releases
Lo-fi lives on YouTube as single tracks, beat tapes and long mixes for studying and relaxing. Descriptions need the tracklist, sample and artwork credits and the mood, more than a big story.
Name the subgenre
Tempo: Usually 70–90 BPM.
Words that tell the scene what it is
What to include
- ✓For beat tapes and mixes, add a tracklist with timestamps; it doubles as chapters.
- ✓Credit the artwork artist and any cleared samples.
- ✓Describe the mood and the use: studying, late-night, rain.
- ✓Link the full tape on streaming and your other mixes.
- ✓Write your own line instead of copying common lo-fi channel phrases.
Common mistakes
- ✕No tracklist on a beat tape
- ✕Missing artwork credit
- ✕Copying a big channel's description word for word
'Tram 28' is a 12-minute lo-fi beat tape from Porto producer Rui Lima, made on a 2012 MacBook with tape saturation and Rhodes samples I played myself. Listen everywhere: [link] Artwork by [artist] 0:00 Rossio 2:41 Graça 5:10 Alfama 8:02 Estrela #lofi #lofihiphop #studybeats
Why music video descriptions often fall short
We built Textlino because we kept running into the same problems.
'New track out now lol' isn't a description
Many artists paste the same two lines under every video. Viewers who want the credits, the lyrics or the streaming link don't find them.
People search YouTube for music
Artist name, song title and genre in the text help the video show up for people looking for exactly that.
Missing credits look careless
Producers, mixers and directors expect to be credited, and labels, bookers and music supervisors notice when they aren't.
It's one more task on release day
When the video is finally done, writing a proper description is the last thing anyone has energy for.
