YouTube music video description template
YouTube shows the first couple of lines of your description above the fold and uses the whole text to understand what the video is. A good music video description does both jobs: it hooks the viewer and tells YouTube who, what and where.

The first two lines
Put the artist name, song title and one line about the video at the very top. That's what shows in search and before viewers tap 'more'. Add the main streaming link right after.

Small things that help
- •Use the same song title spelling as on streaming platforms
- •Add chapters if the video is longer than about two minutes
- •Keep hashtags to three or four relevant ones
- •Pin a comment with the streaming link as well
If your track is made with AI
Add one line saying which parts were made with AI and which are yours, and tick YouTube's altered or synthetic content setting when you upload. YouTube's help page lists generated music that's the main focus of a video as something to disclose.
Give every upload its own description. Templated descriptions across dozens of near-identical AI tracks are exactly what YouTube's inauthentic content policy targets.
Write yours in seconds
Describe your video in one sentence and Textlino writes a first draft of the description you can edit.

Frequently asked questions
How long can a YouTube description be?
Up to 5,000 characters. Only the first couple of lines show before viewers tap 'more', so put the most important information there.
Should I add chapters to a music video?
For a single song they are optional. They help on longer videos such as live sessions, EP listening videos or behind-the-scenes cuts.
