Hip-Hop Artist Bio Generator
Where you're from, who you work with and what you've put out: get a hip-hop bio that places you in your scene.
See the difference
Same artist, same track. One writes alone, one uses Textlino.
"I'm a rapper from London. I've been rapping since I was 14 and I'm the realest in the game. Stream my music and follow me everywhere."
"Kofi Mensah is a Peckham rapper who writes his verses on the 47 bus between shifts. His cousin Dee produces every beat, and their mixtape 'Night Shift' (2025) reads like a diary of being twenty in South London: first jobs, rent and his mum's advice. His first EP is next."
What is an artist bio and where do you need it?
An artist bio introduces you to listeners and to people in the industry. The same facts appear in different lengths on Spotify, in your EPK, in festival applications, press releases and on social profiles. Bookers, journalists and curators often read it before they listen, so it should say quickly who you are, what you sound like and what's happening now.
- • Spotify 'About' section: up to 1,500 characters
- • Electronic press kit (EPK): the long version for press and promoters
- • Festival and venue applications: often a short blurb
- • Press releases: a paragraph journalists can quote
- • Social profiles: one line that fits Instagram, TikTok and X
Writing for hip-hop releases
In hip-hop the scene, the city and the people you work with carry a lot of weight. A bio should place you: where you're from, who produces you, which projects you've put out and how your writing sounds.
Name the subgenre
Tempo: Often 80–100 BPM for boom bap; trap and drill sit around 130–150 BPM with a half-time feel.
Words that tell the scene what it is
What to include
- ✓Lead with your city and scene; it's the first thing other artists and promoters look for.
- ✓Name your main producer or production crew; collaborations show where you fit.
- ✓List projects by name and year: mixtapes, EPs, beat tapes.
- ✓Describe the writing: storytelling, punchlines, introspective, political.
- ✓Use first person on socials, third person for press and booking.
Common mistakes
- ✕'Best rapper in the city' and other claims nobody can check
- ✕A long list of features with no projects
- ✕No mention of where you're from
Kofi Mensah is a rapper from Peckham, South London, whose verses read like a diary of being twenty: first jobs, rent and his mum's advice. He records with his cousin Dee, who produces every track. His mixtape 'Night Shift' (2025) was followed by the single 'Overtime', and he is working on his first EP.
Why writing about yourself is hard
We built Textlino because we kept running into the same problems.
You're too close to your own story
You know every detail of your journey, which makes it hard to pick the three that matter to a stranger.
Every platform needs a different length
One line for Instagram, a paragraph for Spotify, a page for your EPK. Keeping all of them current is a chore.
Praising yourself feels wrong
'Groundbreaking artist' sounds empty, but being too modest makes you forgettable. Concrete facts solve both problems.
Bios go out of date
A bio that still calls a two-year-old EP 'upcoming' makes an active artist look inactive.
Good to know
Platform rules worth checking before you write.
- 3
- lengths worth keeping: one line, one paragraph, full EPK bio
Step by step
From a few facts about your track to a draft you can edit.
Tell us about your sound
A few sentences about your genre, influences, story or recent releases. Even 'dark pop from Berlin, influenced by The Weeknd' is enough to start.
Pick tone and length
Professional for press and Spotify, emotional for storytelling, hype for social. Short for profiles, long for an EPK.
Get a draft in your genre's language
Built from your own facts, structured the way press bios usually are.
Use it everywhere
Spotify for Artists, your EPK, applications, social profiles. Update the last line with every release.
