What is a Spotify editorial pitch?

A Spotify editorial pitch is the short text you submit in Spotify for Artists so playlist editors can consider an unreleased song. You pitch one song at a time, up to 500 characters, and you can edit the pitch until release day. It's your chance to tell editors what they can't hear in the first 30 seconds: the story behind the song, where it fits and what's happening around the release. A pitch doesn't guarantee a playlist; a clear one makes the editor's job easier.

  • • Story and context: what the song is about and why it exists
  • • Genre and references: a plain genre and a 'for fans of' line
  • • Mood and use: when someone would play it, late night, gym, focus
  • • How it was made: collaborators, a notable instrument or setting
  • • Release plans: video, tour, radio or press around the release

Writing for R&B releases

R&B is carried by the voice and the situation in the song. A pitch should describe the vocal, the arrangement and the specific emotional moment, not just 'smooth vibes'.

Name the subgenre

Contemporary R&BAlternative R&BNeo-soulPBR&BSlow jam

Tempo: Often 60–100 BPM.

Words that tell the scene what it is

vocal stacksharmoniesfalsettoRhodeslive bassslow jaminterlude

What to include

  • ✓Describe the vocal: falsetto, stacked harmonies, a raw first take.
  • ✓Name the situation in the song, not just the emotion: the last call, the drive home.
  • ✓Mention live instruments if there are any; they set it apart.
  • ✓Give one or two 'for fans of' references.
  • ✓Say when it's for: late night, Sunday morning, a slow dance.

Common mistakes

  • ✕'Smooth vibes' and 'sensual' without detail
  • ✕No description of the vocal
  • ✕Emotion words without a situation
Example · R&B Spotify pitch (fictional artist)

'Last Call' is an alternative R&B single from London singer Aisha Moon about the last ten minutes before a bar closes. Stacked falsetto harmonies over live bass and Rhodes, 72 BPM. For fans of Cleo Sol and Jorja Smith. Fits late-night and slow listening. A live session video follows on release day.

What makes Spotify pitching hard

We built Textlino because we kept running into the same problems.

😰

Writing about your own music is a different skill

You know how the track sounds, but describing it to a stranger in 500 characters is hard. Most artists stare at the empty box and end up writing 'hope you like it'.

🎯

One song at a time

You can only pitch one unreleased song at a time, so you have to pick which song from a release gets pitched. You can still edit the text until release day.

🔇

No feedback

Spotify doesn't tell you why a pitch wasn't picked up. You can't learn from a rejection, so the safest move is a pitch that's specific and easy to act on.

📋

Vague pitches give editors nothing to work with

Editors get many pitches. 'This is my new track, hope you like it' says nothing about where the song fits. Specific details, a genre and a reference do.

Step by step

From a few facts about your track to a draft you can edit.

1

Describe your track

Paste lyrics, a mood description or a few facts about the song. The more specific you are, the more specific the pitch.

2

Pick a tone

Emotional, professional or hype, to match the release. A debut single and an album lead need different energy.

3

Get a draft

Textlino writes a pitch that covers the story, the genre, a reference and the release context, within Spotify's limit.

4

Edit and submit

Add anything only you know, paste it into Spotify for Artists and submit at least a week before release.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about this tool.

Is this the same as the Spotify for Artists pitch tool?
No. Textlino writes the text of your pitch; you submit it yourself in Spotify for Artists. We don't submit anything on your behalf.
Will this get me on a playlist?
No tool can promise that. Placement depends on the song, timing and Spotify's editors. Textlino helps you write a clearer, more specific pitch than a rushed one.
Can I edit the generated pitch?
Yes, and you should. Add details only you know: the city, collaborators, the story behind the song. You can also edit the pitch in Spotify for Artists until release day.
How is this different from ChatGPT?
Textlino is set up for music copy: each format has its own structure, length and rules, and the result is meant to be pasted straight into the platform. You can get there with a general chatbot too, with more prompting and editing.
When should I pitch my track?
At least 7 days before release, so the song reaches your followers' Release Radar. Earlier, ideally a few weeks ahead, gives editors more time to listen.
Do I need an account?
Not to try it: without an account you get one free Spotify pitch preview a day, written from your own description. For the full texts you sign in with Google. Your first release kit is free; after that it's $4.99 per release, no subscription.
