See the difference
Same artist, same track. One writes alone, one uses Textlino.
"Hardest drill track of the year 🔥🔥 no cap. Add this to your playlist, it goes crazy."
"'Gas Light' is a UK drill single from Croydon rapper Remi Okafor, produced by Twelve: sliding 808s, a choir sample and a beat switch at the second verse. 140 BPM, written about the winter the electricity got cut off at home. For fans of Headie One and Unknown T."
What is a Spotify editorial pitch?
A Spotify editorial pitch is the short text you submit in Spotify for Artists so playlist editors can consider an unreleased song. You pitch one song at a time, up to 500 characters, and you can edit the pitch until release day. It's your chance to tell editors what they can't hear in the first 30 seconds: the story behind the song, where it fits and what's happening around the release. A pitch doesn't guarantee a playlist; a clear one makes the editor's job easier.
- • Story and context: what the song is about and why it exists
- • Genre and references: a plain genre and a 'for fans of' line
- • Mood and use: when someone would play it, late night, gym, focus
- • How it was made: collaborators, a notable instrument or setting
- • Release plans: video, tour, radio or press around the release
Writing for trap releases
Trap pitches are about energy, production and who's involved. Editors want the producer, any features, the regional scene and what the track is for.
Name the subgenre
Tempo: Usually 130–150 BPM, often felt at half time; drill sits around 140.
Words that tell the scene what it is
What to include
- ✓Credit the producer and any features in the first sentence.
- ✓Name the substyle: melodic trap, rage, drill.
- ✓Say what the track is for: workout, late-night drive, pregame.
- ✓Mention the regional scene if it's part of the sound.
- ✓One concrete line about what the lyrics are about.
Common mistakes
- ✕'Hardest track of the year'
- ✕A list of features with nothing about the song
- ✕No producer credit
'Overtime' is a melodic trap single from South London rapper Kofi Mensah, produced by his cousin Dee: sliding 808s, half-time hi-hats and a hook about working two jobs at twenty. 142 BPM, made for late-night drives and the gym. For fans of Central Cee and Kojey Radical. Video shot on the 47 bus route drops on release day.
What makes Spotify pitching hard
We built Textlino because we kept running into the same problems.
Writing about your own music is a different skill
You know how the track sounds, but describing it to a stranger in 500 characters is hard. Most artists stare at the empty box and end up writing 'hope you like it'.
One song at a time
You can only pitch one unreleased song at a time, so you have to pick which song from a release gets pitched. You can still edit the text until release day.
No feedback
Spotify doesn't tell you why a pitch wasn't picked up. You can't learn from a rejection, so the safest move is a pitch that's specific and easy to act on.
Vague pitches give editors nothing to work with
Editors get many pitches. 'This is my new track, hope you like it' says nothing about where the song fits. Specific details, a genre and a reference do.

Describe your track
Paste lyrics, a mood description or a few facts about the song. The more specific you are, the more specific the pitch.
Pick a tone
Emotional, professional or hype, to match the release. A debut single and an album lead need different energy.
